So in an effort to be more green we will be holding a Contest. The person with the best greenin up the shop idea wins a $50.00 Gift Card good at any of the TRM Cycles/ Trek of Pittsburgh stores. You can enter by commenting on this posting or if it is more involved you can email me directly at mikeh@trekofpgh.com. We are looking for big unique ideas to take our efforts to the next level, and yes, we already do the easy stuff. We recycle tubes, we recycle parts, we use bio-degradable cleaners and lubes, we recycle cardboard, we even re-use our shop rags. But we want to do our part and show the world that not only can you live better thru biking but you can make a difference as well!
So do some research, ask your friends, and post your comments for your chance to win $50.00 of cold hard gift card good for anything we sell or it can be used on labor as well. Win yourself a free tune-up so you can ride more...

You could change all of your light fixtures to fluorescent and add solar panels to the rooftop. Also make sure that not only the cleaners that are used on the bikes are green but also the household chemicals that are used to clean the shop, these usually last longer too so that there is less consumption. Lastly you could always regulate the temp in the building to be closer to the actual temp outside so that the building uses less energy. I will continue to ponder on this thought, but I hope this helps for now!
the Calvetti fam has 2 green ideas for the shop.
1) Get a rain barrel to collect, well, rain. Then, we can advertise giving a rain-soft bike wash with each tune-up. Not only does it save $$ and show our concern to conserve water, but it also lets us charge $10 more per tune-up. It sounds like win-win to me.
2) Quit telling people we have a bathroom in the back they can use. That will save 1.2 gallons of water with every "Nope. Sorry."
Talk to you then.
Greg
